St. Martin Etiquette
The people of St. Martin/St. Maarten are friendly, and appreciate your friendly response. Your stay on the island will be more memorable if you take time, for instance while St. Martin shopping, to chat a little and try to learn more about the island rather than asking about the prices first.
While the islanders are a friendly, warm group, they also have set standards regarding dressing public behavior. Dressing appropriately would include wearing a cover up back and forth to the beach, and while in town shopping, you should wear walking shorts and shirts.
