Points of Interest
A driving tour of St. John provides views of picture-book beaches and neighboring islands.
To get a glimpse of early St. John stop by the Annaberg Plantation Ruins. There you will see partially restored ruins of an 18th century sugar cane plantation. The staff at the interpretive center talk about plantation life. The overlook at the hilltop provides a panoramic view of the British Virgin Islands.
If you are interested in Caribbean HIKING, off of trail 15 in the National Park are rocks with petroglyphs (carvings in rock). The origin of these petroglyphs is uncertain; perhaps carved by Arawaks or later by African slaves. If you still have energy, the hike to Ram's Head brings you to cliffs with crashing waves.
The towns of Cruz Bay on the west end and Coral Harbor on the east are fun to EXPLORE. If you are headed to the East End, you might want to stop at Vie's Snack Shack for some fabulous garlic chicken or conch. The chickens and cats battle for your scraps! (The chickens usually win.)
