Les Jolies Eaux
Caribbean rental villa, Gelliceaux Bay, Mustique
This villa stands on a private peninsula overlooking the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean, with spectacular views of Canouan and other Grenadine Islands beyond. Designed by Oliver Messel as a villa for HRH The Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, it has just been extensively refurbished and expanded to include special new master bedroom and dining pavilions as well as a media room and an office. The villa facilities include private outdoor porches for each bedroom, a Jeep, telephone, fax, TV, CD player and air conditioning.
All bedrooms are air conditioned and each has its own private deck. They are all separated to allow for quiet and privacy. Each room has been designed to take the best advantage it can from the easterly trade winds. If the breeze is blowing (and it usually is at Les Jolies Eaux), you may want to try turning off the air conditioner, opening all your windows and doors, snuggling under your net curtain and enjoying the clean night air.
Judy, the cook who first came to Les Jolies Eaux with its original owner, manages the permanent house staff. Arnold, the butler, has been at the house for a decade. Dianetta and Wendy, the maids, will clean your room daily and will take care of the laundry. Ernesto is the gardener and occasional butler. The staff works 7 a.m. (earlier if you request) through the end of the mid-day meal, with a short mid-morning breakfast break. They generally are off duty during the mid-afternoon unless you ask for special assistance. They are back on duty for the early evening cocktail hour until Arnold closes the house after all have retired.
