The Great House, Turtle Beach occupies a prime beachfront site of 1.5 acres on the exclusive West Coast of Barbados. Set in lush landscaped grounds, the property commands a magnificent view south across Mullins Bay. Built in 1988, The Great House is constructed in grand style using coral stone, verandahs, shuttered windows, ceiling fans and numerous other features of the traditional West Indian plantation house.
The main house is built on two stories accommodating spacious reception rooms and three of the bedroom suites. These bedrooms feature king size beds. Four further bedroom suites are provided in cottages built in the local ‘chattel house’ style. These feature twin beds. The extensive dining area is located beside the main house to the north and can seat up to 20.
All bedrooms air conditioned and have bathrooms en suite. The main telephone switchboard has telephone extensions in all bedrooms. Views from this room are extensive and spectacular looking south across the beautiful garden, down the coastline towards historic Holetown, Sandy Lane and Bridgetown.
The well equipped kitchen includes a commercial fridge, two freezers, wine cooler, barbecue grill, convection oven, two industrial chillers, sorbet machine, microwave, two coffee makers, cappuccino machine, two toasters, two blenders, a kitchen aid, and a dishwasher. The laundry room contains a commercial washing machine, dryer and laundry press.
The leisure area has a swimming pool, shallow children’s pool, powder room, Jacuzzi, changing room, portable gas Bar-B-Q, and poolside bar. There is a cozy covered seating area with wonderful views of the pool, garden and the Caribbean Sea. Tables are set here for playing board games and cards. A magnificent beach-side gazebo set in the north of the landscaped grounds makes for delightful alfresco dining and sunset cocktails.
The two story Coach House, situated near the entrance gates consists of the office, commercially equipped laundry and staff quarters. The office contains a fax machine, photocopier and personal computer.
Watersports equipment features a 30 Foot Grady White speedboat with 2 x 225hp outboard engines, 16' Hobie cat (Catamaran), Sunfish (sailboat), water skiing equipment (adult and child), children's tow-board, masks, snorkels, private raft, and Scuba Diving equipment for five persons may be used only by special arrangement (Boatman is PADI certified diver).
Designed for family occupation by its owners, The Great House, Turtle Beach combines the convenience of luxury hotel service with privacy specially afforded by such a magnificent setting. Children are welcome. A staff of fifteen includes a House Manager, two Butlers, Cook, Assistant Cook, two Maids, two Gardeners, two Night Watchmen, Laundress and Assistant Boatman - PADI certified diver could instruct guests (by special arrangement only). The number of staff may fluctuate depending on the number of guests.
